The 5016 was Patek’s most complicated wristwatch until the release of ref. 5002, the Sky Moon Tourbillon. The watch features many complicated functions including perpetual calendar, minute repeater, Tourbillon and retrograde date and moon phase. The movement is the manual winding Caliber RTO 27 PS QR which has 28 jewels, self-compensating free-sprung balance, adjusted to temperature, isochronism and five positions. The one minute tourbillon is visible through the display back and resides in a polished steel cage. The repeater mechanism is also visible through the display back. This was achieved by removing the need for a pusher when using the time zone function: the grade-5 titanium rotating bezel is actually set on ball bearings, allowing easy adjustment when the wearer is setting a time zone. The rotating bezel also has a wheel connected to the movement which directly manipulates the hour hand, increasing time-setting accuracy and speed. • Case is in 18k white gold at 45mm with a thickness of 16.05mm, celestial dial with grisaille enamel, silver metal filigree outer dome, sapphire display caseback. There are three rings on the dial that shows the solar time, the most inside ring shows 24 hours, the outer ring shows the minute and the middle ring is the hour ring. The watch is a flying tourbillon that also display sidereal time, the celestrial dial with star chart shows the constellations in the northern hemisphere, also a zodiac calendar and a minute repeater. The movement is a manual winding in-house calibre 945, many patented innovations in this movement including the trebuchet hammer and the governor.

Case is 56.5mm with a thickness of 23.5mm in 18k “Brequet Gold”, sapphire crystal, dust and moisture resistant only. Case band, bow and rear cover are decorated with Quai de I’Horloge guilloché inspired by the Turgot map of Paris, the back covered with Bleu de France grand feu enamel and a raised Breguet “B”, while the front lid is hand-engraved with the River Seine and Brequet’s historic Quai de I’Horloge workshop, the river itself picked out in Bleu de France enamel. Regulator-style dial in Breguet Gold with Quai de I’Horloge guilloché and a white enamel hours insert with pantograph-engraved secret signature, plus blued (PVD) tourbillon bridge and hammers and two prominent chiming gongs visible on the dial side.Movement is manual-winding caliber 508 GS running at 18, 000bph with around 539 components and 43 jewels, combining tourbillon, grande and petite sonnerie, minute repeater and a magnetic strike governor; the going train winds clockwise and the strike train counterclockwise, with the movement inverted so the strike works are on full display behind a sapphire cuvette.
