One of the main focus here is the replacement of the traditional Swiss lever escapement with the Blade Resonator; which is incredible at reducing friction. The hairspring itself is replaced by a short spring shaped like a bow, on the outside of the blade resonator. This short spring pivots between two opposing blade edges, making a very low angle oscillation, the friction generated is very low; which means power efficiency is very high. This system is completely new and will make revolutionary changes to the industry. Low amplitude (30°) with high frequency (5Hz) offers great accuracy, in fact Renaud believes it can achieve far superior accuracy than COSC. Using a standard mainspring, it can achieve an incredible power reserve of 14 days. The case is made of titanium C shape and the movement is housed in a sapphire cylinder that can rotate 360°, allowing the wearer to choose which part of the watch to admire. Unique piece. 18k white gold case in 43.5mm. Manual winding tourbillon movement, completely handmade. The Hand Made 1 has been entirely created from scratch. The movement construction, traditional machining and hand-finishing specialists reflected at length on each of the 272 movement components and 36 case parts. In fact, this is an entirely handmade timepiece, from the movement to the case, to the leather strap, the dial and the hands -the only exceptions being the sapphire crystals, the case gaskets, the spring- bars, the jewels, and the mainspring. To achieve the 95% handmade level more than 6,000 hours of work for one single timepiece. To obtain the 308 components of the Hand Made 1 respecting Greubel Forsey criteria, over 800 individual parts had to be made. It took 35 times longer to make the complete tourbillon cage than for a standard high-end tourbillon. When just a dozen operations on an automatic lathe effortlessly yield some 500 screws, a single screw, as small as it may be, requires up to 12 individual operations taking up to 8 hours to make just one. 42mm case, the case middle and lugs made of grade 5 titanium and bezel and caseback made in platinum. The heart at 6 o’clock is formed by an intersection of the two skulls on the dial : framing a red gem in the center of the hidden tourbillon cage. Visible only when the slider of the repeater is activated, the chimes of the minute repeater carillon sound while another mechanism simultaneously separates the two skulls to reveal the tourbillon. This project took 5 years to develop from scratch, the movement has 514 components at JUST 8.7mm! More impressive is that it has a 3 weeks power reserve (6 barrels). Perpetual calendar, age of moon, sun rise sun set, running equation of time, tide level, sun earth moon conjunction, celestial chart, Tourbillon just to name a few. This is a jaw dropping piece and I was totally impressed by its size 45mm in 18k white gold. Unique Piece. Besides all that advanced technical achievements, this watch has won the GPHG2017 Mechanical Exception Watch Prize.
