In 2016, their Chronometer FB1 took the GPHG “Aiguille d’or” top prize. This year the FB1R utilizes a Regulator display. A steel version was introduced in January; at BaselWorld; we see another case material : Bronze. Bronze case was made to commemorate two ships that sailed in 1785; carrying 5 Ferdinand Berthoud marine Chronometer; L’Astrolabe and La Boussole. Bronze case at 44mm. Hand winding Caliber FB-T.FC, fusee and chain constant force with 3Hz Tourbillon, 53 hours power reserve. Only 5 pieces will be made each with difference treatments to the bronze case. 18k rose gold case in 43mm with a thickness of 12mm. Manual winding movement DB2004, using the inhouse patented 4 spoke titanium balance with platinum weights. Perpetual calendar with astronomical moonphase. Power reserve is 5 days. Several technical aspects make this a very interesting watch to collect; first of all a legible perpetual calendar is something not talked about more often enough. Many perpetual calendar on the market are simply impossible to read; this DB17 is very legible with a simplistic approach in dial design. Secondly, the moonphase is not only incredible because of its Astronomical Moonphase ability (meaning its accurate up to 122 years), but also it is a spherical moon, adding even more uniqueness to the watch. Produced in very small quantity in the early days of the brands’ launch.

The watch use magnetic fields to move the steel balls contained in each of the side sapphire crystal tubes up and down to indicate the hours and minutes! The new movement is the caliber FLY11. It uses a sophisticated titanium curved base plate and contains a flying tourbillon. The tourbillon is angled at 30 degree and is mounted on double ceramic bearings. Most of this watch uses titanium – especially the movement. But the current versions of the X-TREM-1 watch have titanium mixed with a precious metal. The X-TREM-1 case is 40.80mm wide by 56.80mm.
