In 2008, Omega made the Speedmaster Moonwatch Alaska Project : a “re-issue” Speedmaster from the past. The original Omega Speedmaster Alaska Project was from 1969/1970, later there was the Speedmaster Alaska Project II watch. The 2008 re-issue piece is a combination from both the original and the second gen. An important note is that the original Alaska Project watches were produced as five prototype watches at the request of NASA who wanted a design to incorporate heat reflective design. Named after the British explorer, it was originally released in 1962, this watch is the perfect blend of vintage and new material. Although Rado had already used ceramic for the bezel of its signature dive watch, it is the first time that ceramic is applied to the entire Captain Cook.
