This watch is a classic car inspired watch. The ‘Drive de Cartier’ flying tourbillon watch is the top of the line model in the ‘Drive’ range. The 9452MC caliber was launched in 2007, this manual winding movement also carries the “Poinçon de Genève”! For the dial Cartier used the layered cut-out with guilloche underneath. 18k pink gold, 40mm. Priced at US$89,500.

This is an iconic watch with a significant place in the US space exploration. While most people view the Speedmaster being an astronaut’s equipment; surpassing NASA’s tests and requirements, I think another historic event is more important. The Speedmaster was a key reason in the survival of the Apollo 13 crew members. While all the electronics on board were fried, the Apollo 13 crew was left with their Speedmaster to time critical burns (turning the engine on and off). Precise timing was paramount because this is how they steer the space craft in the correct direction and angle; in order to avoid burn up or bouncing off the atmosphere upon re-entry.

The watch design is inspired by the Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic coupe in Ralph Lauren’s car collection. Design cues from the dash of the 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic coupe, in elm burl wood. Inspired by 1960s racing chronograph, the Track 1 is in Titanium case 43mm, 15mm thickness. The movement is a mechanical marvel by Agenhor, using their newest chronograph creation; the AgenGraphe, with several modification that is specifically designed for the Track 1. 60 hours power reserve. Limited to 50 pieces. It is priced at 39,800 CHF.

The watch uses magnetic fields to move the steel balls contained in each of the side sapphire crystal tubes up and down to indicate the hours and minutes! The new movement is the caliber FLY11. It uses a sophisticated titanium curved base plate and contains a flying tourbillon. The tourbillon is angled at 30 degree and is mounted on double ceramic bearings. Most of this watch uses titanium – especially the movement. But the current versions of the X-TREM-1 watch have titanium mixed with a precious metal. The X-TREM-1 case is 40.80mm wide by 56.80mm.
