Panerai PAM92 Luminor Arktos (2004)
In 2004 South African born explorer Mike Horn completed a two-year, 3-month solo circumnavigation of the Arctic Circle, and in 2006 along with Norwegian explorer Børge Ousland, became the first men to travel without dog or motorised transport to the North Pole during winter, in permanent darkness. Of course, a watch with a Quartz movement would simply freeze, he relied on his PAM92 to navigate in such extreme conditions. Anti magnetism with soft iron inner case, water resistance to 300 meters, capable to resist extreme temperatures down to –70° (whereas the oils used in a normal watch would fail at –30°); the Arktos can also be used as a compass. The Luminor Arktos was released in 2004 (limited 500pcs)
