Grand Seiko Kodo Constant Force Tourbillon – SLGT003 (2022)

The world’s first combination of a tourbillon and constant-force mechanism on a single axis.
First, the name Kodo means beating – or I interpret it as heartbeat.
The first thing besides the beauty of the watch, is the sound this escapement generates (please check the last video, I tried to capture the unique beating sound, turn up the volume!)
It really emulates the sound of a heartbeat because as the title says, it’s the first tourbillon with a constant force on the same axis.
The case is made up of two different materials, first is 905PT platinum, and the second is Seiko’s Brilliant Hard Titanium, of course using the brand’s signature Zaratsu polishing to finish, the result is a very well balanced weight and a fascinating sheen on these two white metal.
The movement is a manual winding 9ST1, that took GS team more than 2 years to develop.
Because the constant force and the tourbillon is on the same axis, there is no need for wheels or other gear between the two, no loss in energy leading this to an increase of power and precision.
The movement is rated -3/+5 seconds per day (much higher than the COSC requirement).
The movement is decorated with the usual high GS standard, with the hour and minute showing at upper side of the dial, power reserve show at 9 and the tourbillon is visible at 6.
